Flotsam and Jetsam

Wandering about in St. Louis this week, I made my way onto The Brass Alligator. I found some brass alligators there, too. Didn't buy one. Yet. The shop has a resident mustached and bearded parrot who was in the midst of a mini meltdown while we were there, so I didn't snap his photo. The exterior windows were being cleaned and he didn't like that.
The shop had a small collection of 1940's women's day dresses, many many brass figurines, and a pretty big, even by Florida standards, taxidermied alligator. I plan to go there again and snap more photos, there is an upstairs level we didn't even get to. But here you'll find a painting of a ghostly woman, an old stuffed black cat, and their storefront signage.

In past trips to St. Louis I've taken photos from the many antique shops along Cherokee Street. When I was young my first husband worked in a bakery there, and my mother-in-law worked at JC Penney's. I was often in the shops on that bustling street. One of my favorite places to shop was in a corner drug store where you could find anything, Globe Drug. I bought a figurine of ice-skating nuns, there, in the 70's. Eventually I gave it to a dear friend to keep once I began moving about on a seemingly regular basis after my husband and I split up.

Photo from the web. Sadly, Globe Drug is out of business

I enjoy going into antique shops, even though the smell of them isn't pleasant to me, and I'm averse to buying anything I might need to dust. A curio cabinet is something I should invest in someday. Who doesn't remember being a child staring into an aunt's cabinets wishing you could git you feet into those porcelain shoes? Ok, not you, but there are people like me out there. Enjoying my summer, here in St. Louis.
